Paid link
What is paid link?
A paid link is any link where money changed hands for the placement itself. Google's guidelines require these links to be marked sponsored or nofollow.
Why it matters
Paying a writer to produce a great article is not a paid link. Paying purely to insert a URL into an existing page is.
The risk is concentrated on sites that sell links at scale — their entire outbound profile eventually gets discounted.
