Backlink

What is backlink?

A backlink is a hyperlink on another website that points to a page on your site. Search engines treat backlinks as votes of confidence and use them to judge a page's authority.

Why it matters

Not all backlinks carry equal weight. Value depends on the linking site's own authority, the topical relevance between the two pages, the link's position on the page, and the anchor text used.

A single contextual link from a respected industry publication typically outperforms dozens of footer, directory, or comment links.
